Not The Nine O'Clock News
“Not the Nine O’Clock News” was a turning point in the career of Geoff Posner. Up to that point, he had been working in the BBC Light Entertainment department, first as an AFM (an Assistant Floor Manager), then a Production Manager and finally as Director. John Lloyd asked him to direct the fourth series, which led to a series of fruitful creative relationships with some of the top writers, producers and comedians of the time.
As well as the sketches and monologues, Geoff also directed many of the songs, using state of the art TV technology of the time, and songs like “Nice Video, Shame About The Song” and the ABBA spoof (not to mention “The Memory Kinda Lingers) were classics of their time.
