Comedy's best kept secret ingredient gets his own sketch show. Sketches, characters, sound effects, bit of music, some messin' about, you know...
In Summer 2012 Pozzitive was delighted to bring to the airwaves the debut radio show from the actor (and writer and comedian) (and phenomenon) Kevin Eldon, star of countless TV and radio comedies including Brass Eye, Spaced, Black Books, Saxondale, I'm Alan Partridge, Nighty Night, Green Wing, Big Train and Jam. He’s been in virtually every major comedy show in the last fifteen years, but not content with working with the likes of Chris Morris, Steve Coogan, Armando Iannucci, Harry Enfield & Paul Whitehouse, Stewart Lee, Julia Davis and Graham Linehan, he’s finally decided to put together his own comedy series for BBC Radio 4.
Appearing in the series are Amelia Bullmore ("I'm Alan Partridge", "Scott & Bailey"), Julia Davis (“Nighty Night”), Rosie Cavaliero ("Peep Show"), Paul Putner ("Little Britain"), Justin Edwards (“The Consultants”) and David Reed (“The Penny Dreadfuls”) with guest appearances from Philip Pope (“Radio Active”) and Phil Cornwell ("I'm Alan Partridge").
The show was written by Kevin Eldon with additional material from that extraordinarily prolific pair, Jason Hazeley & Joel Morris (“Flight Of The Conchords”, “That Mitchell & Webb Sound”...)
Show 1 features a robot king, a 50s Spaceman, a ghastly Lottery, some crabs, a kitten, disco and John Donne.
Show 2 is called “Hooter” and boasts a fly, a fruitbowl and the Hallelujah Chorus. Obviously. Plus maverick street-artist Banksy’s first-ever in-depth interview. Oh, did we mention the fruitbowl? Yep.
Show 3 and it’s guest week, and to celebrate, Kevin Eldon will be talking to his guests, who include a stupid man, Apollo 11 mission commander Neil Armstrong and sadly, a hypnotist.
And in Show 4, Kevin goes into space, meets a bandit and evokes the powerful gods of Ancient Egypt. Not all at the same time, obviously; that would be weird. No, separately.
After all the waiting - Kevin Eldon Will See You Now.
The second series, glory be, started transmitting in September 2014, with the cast joined by Catherine Shepherd - who also played Giles Wemmbley Hogg’s dippy sister, Charlotte...
The third series starred our regular cast and welcomed back Rosie Cavaliero... while the fourth series, broadcast in August-September 2019 took a narrative turn, broadcasting from the Eldon family's stately home and featuringMorwenna Banks as Kevin's artistic genius Italian wife Alessandra, Kate Duchêne as Helen, the family archivist and Miles Jupp and Justin Edwards as Kevin's adopted twin sons, Jacob & Rees (and their cat Mogg). Also joining the show was Dan "Angelos Epithemiou" Skinner - whilst Catherine Shepherd, David Reed and Paul Putner played the usual wild range of characters...
