The Doug Anthony All-Stars
One of the first ever Pozzitive productions was a half-hour special featuring the startlingly-original and genuinely (as opposed to synthetically) outrageous Doug Anthony All-Stars, a three-man singing & comedy group from Australia who had exercised such a compelling grip on two Edinburgh festivals in succession that the BBC gave them their own special, broadcast in December 1992.
The three comedians, Tim Ferguson, Richard Fidler & Paul McDermott, were a totally arresting mixture of scary and charming, and mixed comic songs, stand-up and audience participation at a furious pace.
The name “Doug Anthony All-Stars”, apart from forming a handy acronym for things like their Australian show D*A*A*S Kapital, comes from a little-known-outside-Australia politician and occasional Deputy Prime Minister...
